Who We Are

Hello and welcome! My name is Jamie. My husband John and I moved to Montana from Coeur d’ Alene Idaho back in 2016 with our four kids. We are first generation homesteaders/dairy farmers, or just your average city gone country folk nowadays, so to speak. While I can’t say at the time that we were tired of the life we lived (pre Covid ya know?), nor that we wanted to move or had ever thought about homesteading, I will say that God most certainly had big plans in store for us, and knew better than we did what we needed. Earlier in 2011, multiple family health crisis’ changed the way that I looked at health, wellness, food and lifestyle. Having been a part of the standard health care system and American diet up until that point, this shift was going to be a major one. Thus began the journey of sourcing real and organic food, protocols such as the GAPS diet followed by a Weston A Price lifestyle, detoxing and alternative healing modalities such as Homeopathy. These changes weren’t the catalyst that moved us out here however, oh no no, that was all the Lords doing; one of those miracle stories that you pass down for generations to come. Would I have gone of my own free will or on a whim into this life? I don’t think so, no. After all, we had never owned more than 1/3 of an acre, high heels and date nights were a regular occurrence, and shopping may have been considered part of my cardio routine. Instead, we were led to this land, thrust into it if you will. The sea was parted, the way was paved, and here we came a kickin’ and a screamin’ into our 118 acre Promised Land. Looking back now after a decade of being here, we see how, in His goodness, He had prepared us ahead of time for this life and land. It took His patience while we struggled, and still struggle, through our own uniquely tailored reformations. One thing I will say: there is NO way I’d ever go back. Not in a million years and not for a million dollars. THIS is the way we are meant to live.   Providence Homestead; where there is purpose, passion and a story in everything we do.

Where We Are Located

We are located in the north west corner of Montana,  between the towns of Troy Montana and Bonners Ferry Idaho, right on the border. We are 2.5 hours from Spokane Int airport, about the same distance from Kalispell Int airport, and are only about 40 min away from the Canadian border town of Creston.

When Do We Sell

We calve and lamb in spring in harmony with natures cycles for our location. Doing so ensures the best overall animal health and the lowest predator load to our farm. Available animals for the year will be listed between April and June, and ready for their new homes by early to late fall of the same year. Though I may offer a milk cow at any time, I find it best to work within the spring and summer months for the well being of both animal and new owner.

Why We Do What We Do

Any one who knows, knows- we can’t be doing this for the money. Do this long enough for what realistically may be close to $0.50 an hour, with money making at its core, is sure to lead to burnout. So why do we do it then? For reasons that are priceless. Purpose - this is work that has big meaning and even bigger rewards. Health- we eat really well and our health reflects that; we have not visited a doctors office in over 15 years. Lessons- I could list a thousand & one things that I have learned about life, love, nature, God, and myself; this lifestyle will make a philosopher of anyone willing to submit to it. Self sufficiency- knowing where our water, fuel, and food comes from is invaluable.
